"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” - Jesus (Matthew 25 35-36)
Central will be providing shoeboxes loaded with useful items for the homeless who live on the streets of Denver. This regular, monthly Shoebox Ministry is both for twenty-five homeless teens and fifteen to twenty other men and women on the streets. They will be handed out by volunteers who will meet with, share with, listen to, and converse with the residents of Denver’s alleyways, looking our brothers in the eye and extending a smile and a dignified handshake, praying where it is wanted.
On the first Sunday of the month, I will bring the boxes and supplies to our fellowship breakfast. Those who would like to help pack them can lend a hand. Children can help decorate them, and those who would like to help distribute them can see me about joining us. We will need prayer, and we will regularly announce the items that we need for them. Love, caring, praying, sharing… To my mind, this makes a community like ours stronger.
