Interfaith Thanksgiving Service

Thanksgiving Day 2016 marked the 140th anniversary of Denver’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. Central organized Denver’s first “Community Thanksgiving Service” in 1876. In the early years, it was shared largely between Christian and Jewish congregations, though the record shows that participants from the Buddhist Temple became involved in the early 1900’s. Over the years, the service added new participants so that today it represents more than a dozen different faith communities. The service rotates to various locations and draws over 700 people.

This year’s service included leaders from:

  • B’Nai Havurah
  • Central Christian Church
  • Christ the King Catholic Church
  • First Unitarian Church
  • First Universalist Church of Denver
  • Metropolitan Community Church of the Rockies
  • Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church
  • The Multicultural Mosaic Foundation
  • Shorter Community African Methodist Episcopal Church
  • Tri-State/Denver Buddhist Temple
  • Temple Emanuel
  • University Park United Methodist Church
